There are 2.7 million children in the United States with a parent behind bars. Meanwhile, childhood illiteracy is a significant indicator of future incarceration, to the degree that 66% of children who cannot read by the end of 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare. We wanted to help break that cycle.
